Venue: African American History and Culture Museum Event Location: 2nd Floor Classrooms Cost: Free. This event is available to all visitors to NMAAHC who have advanced or same day passes on Saturday, August 12, 2017 only. Join NMAAHC as we kick off the 2017 – 2018 National History Day (NHD) contest year with an open house where students and their families can learn about this exciting program. NHD is a yearlong program that engages students in 6th to 12th grades worldwide to produce original historical research. Students can present their historical research in one of five categories: a documentary, an exhibit, a paper, a performance or a website. Beginning in the spring, students compete in a series of competitions at the local, state and regional levels and at the national competition in College Park, Maryland in June. This open house will allow students and their families to interact with examples of all five categories, gain information about how to participate in their local NHD contests, learn about the resources for NHD offered by NMAAHC, and discuss the NHD experience with a student participant and judges.
