About this Event

Venue: African American History and Culture Museum Event Location: Oprah Winfrey Theater Cost: FREE - Registration is encouraged Get Tickets: NMAAHC screens Superfly,(1972) the iconic crime, action drama directed by Gordon Parks Jr., starring Ron O’Neal as Youngblood Priest, a black cocaine dealer and his attempts to leave the drug trade. Mayfield composed the score for the film, which evolved into an essential narrative element and was wildly popular with the public. NMAAHC curator of music and the performing arts, Dwandalyn Reece, Ph.D., moderates a conversation with NMAAHC history curator, Kevin Strait, Ph.D. and Gregory Tate, critic, writer and musician.  In the spirit of the film, Superfly, we encourage attendees to wear their favorite 70's - inspired attire. Please note: This is the first of a two-day tribute to Curtis Mayfield, Jr. The second program is scheduled for June 3, 2017 at 7 p.m. Registration is now open for both program dates.
