About this Event
Summer 2020: The Paradox of Liberty: The African American Experience in the Revolutionary Era and Young Republic (1763 - 1803)

The Young Historians Institute is a rigorous weeklong program hosted by the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) for rising high school students in grades 10 to 12. Students will focus on exploring historical content while practicing the historical thinking skills that define the life and work of professional historians.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in intensive lectures and discussions, analyze primary sources from the NMAAHC and other Smithsonian collections, visit a historical site, engage with experts in the field, and complete your experience by presenting original research on a historical figure of their choice to family, friends, Smithsonian staff, and members of the public in our Colonial Café.

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN UNTIL MAY 1, 2020 AT 11:59 PM (EST)!
