Highlights from the Event

This special bird walk is open to everyone of all ages, and it is dedicated to the Black Birders Week 2024 theme, Wings of Justice: Soaring for Change. Bird walks like this one can raise awareness about the ways African Americans engage with nature and celebrate, uplift and support their appreciation for birds, and acknowledge the barriers to a more equitable access to nature. Adjacent to the Ward 8 neighborhoods of Eastland Gardens and Mayfair, Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is one of the best places in the District for bird watching. Over 250 species of birds have been seen in the park! Together, Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and National Museum of African American History and Culture are supporting this event.

What to bring: Family and friends, clothes that provide protection from the sun, sunblock, plenty of water, and binoculars if you have them. The Park has a limited number of binoculars to share.

LOCATION: Meet in front of the Visitor Center at Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, DC 20019
