Highlights from the Event

Telling Tales of the Diaspora invites you to explore what diaspora is and what it means to you. On March 20 Join Jessica B. Harris as she discusses her recent book, Vintage Postcards from the African World: In the Dignity of Their Work and the Joy of Their Play. Facilitated by Kelly E. Navies, Oral Historian for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, this lively discussion will be illustrated with selected postcards from the early years of the last century.

During the Q&A Dr. Harris and Ms. Navies will be joined by Gabrielle Fulton Ponder, whose work enhanced the stories told by some of the postcards.

Starting March 3, you can also click here to find recipes to download from South and Central America, the Caribbean, and West Africa, as well as a place to share what foods remind you of home, a postcard making activity, and the opportunity to add your story to the Museum’s Community Curation Program.
