NMAAHC Kids Learning Together: Meet a Beekeeper!
Designed for children ages 6 and up

This Black History Month, join NMAAHC Kids in learning about our amazing planet from Black nature lovers and explorers! During this Zoom webinar program, meet beekeepers Timothy Jackson and Nicole Lindsey, founders of Detroit Hives. Timothy and Nicole will teach children about beekeeping, the importance of pollination and Black bee scientists. Plus, they’ll answer audience questions live! Then, a museum educator will guide children in creating a colorful flower collage inspired by floral art in the Smithsonian collection.

About the Special Guests: Detroit Hives was born when Timothy Jackson and Nicole Lindsey bought their first vacant lot and turned it into an urban bee farm in 2017. Since then, they’ve generated buzz with their work, expanding to other lots, multiplying their number of hives and continuing to build their colony. Detroit Hives was created with the purpose of bringing diversity to bee awareness and rebuilding inner-city communities and making Detroit the place to “BEE”.

More Information: Registered guests will receive an email with Zoom information, a list of supplies needed and recommended resources one week before the program.

Program Recording: Watch the recorded program on the NMAAHC YouTube channel. PDFs with a list of supplies, project steps and recommended resources are available here in January 2024.
