- Seth Jones became the highest-drafted African American in National Hockey League (NHL) history when he was selected fourth overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2013 NHL Draft.
- After being traded to Columbus Blue Jackets in 2016, Jones has established himself as a three-time All-Star for the Blue Jackets and one of the best defensemen in the entire NHL. Known as a fierce and relentless defender, Jones is a versatile star who can also score goals and dish out assists. Jones has become an African American star in a sport that has been slow to embrace diversity. Despite a record 28 black players playing in the NHL during the 2017-18 season, blacks accounted for roughly only three percent of the league.

- A game-worn, Seth Jones, Columbus Blue Jackets hockey jersey. The home jersey was worn by Jones for twenty minutes during the 2019-2020 home opener. The jersey is navy blue with white, red, and silver accents. The front of the jersey has the team logo at center: a white and silver star surrounded by the red, white, and blue Ohio Burgee (state flag). Above the logo, just below the red lined neckline, there is a NHL logo. The sleeves are navy blue and edged with red and white. Both sleeves have patches on the shoulder, the number [3] in white with a red outline just below the patches, and white stars right above the sleeve cuff. The patches are outlined in silver and have cannons at the center. Above the cannon, white text reads [Columbus Blue Jackets]. Red and white lines run from the proper left sleeve cuff to the proper right sleeve cuff. The bottom of the jersey is white with a red accent. The back of the jersey is mostly navy blue and has [Jones] in white lettering at center. Above the name is a white Adidas logo. Below the name is a large number [3] in white and edged in red. Red and white lines run from proper left sleeve cuff to the proper right sleeve cuff. The bottom of the jersey is white with a red accent. The interior of the jersey has several tags and a set of fight straps. At the neck a black tag with white lettering that reads [Made in Canada / Hencho En Canada /Fabrique au Canada / adidas (with logo) / USA 58 / E 58 / CDN 58\. A white tag with blue and black lettering on the interior bottom reads [MeiGrayGroup / NHL Game-Worn Jersey / 2019-20 Season/ S01766]. Another tag on the interior bottom has an image of Rich Street bridge next to black text that reads reads [2019-20 Season / (Blue Jackets logo) / Official Game Jersey / Tim LeRoy Equiptment Manager/ Columbus Blue Jackets]. Just below the bottom of the [3] on the inside of the jeresy is a fight strap, a white strap with metal fasteners, that hooks into hockey pants.

- Description
- A Reebok Ribcor Tri Matrix hockey stick game-used by Joel Ward. The stick is mostly black with silver, white, and neon green accents. The top of the stick has red and white tape on the handle. On one of the edges white text reads: [WARD / M / 95 / T / E03504 / V02 / SV]. Another edge has two stickers with the stick's serial number printed in black ink. The blade has Joel Wards signature and number on the front side.

Ceremonial basket adorned with cowrie shells

- Caption
- This cowrie shell basket was created by artisans in Mossuril, Mozambique, in 2015 to hold soil from the region, which was then deposited at the site of the São José shipwreck. After a solemn ceremony on May 30, 2015, the village and tribal elder in Mossuril, Evano Nhogache, entrusted this basket to Lonnie Bunch, instructing him to place the enclosed soil as close to the wreck site as possible to symbolically reconnect those Mozambicans who were lost with their homeland. He then asked that the basket become part of the collections of the NMAAHC. On June 2, 2015, at a second memorial in Clifton, the soil was poured into the ocean near the wreck site. The slave ship São José Paquete Africa sank on December 3, 1794 off the coast of South Africa. It had left Mozambique 24 days prior bound for Maranhão, Brazil.

- A basket created by artisans in Mossuril, Mozambique for ceremonial transport of soil from Mozambique to the site of the São José shipwreck in Cape Town, South Africa. The round basket is in two parts, a base and lid, and is made from worked plant material. Cowrie shells placed closely together adorn and cover the outside of both the top and bottom of basket.

- Exhibition catalog for Steven Burks' first solo New York museum show, Stephen Burks | Man Made, at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
- The catalog has a clear plastic cover over the front and back. There is a brown vinyl book cloth over the spine. The front plastic cover has white printed text which reads [Stephen Burks] at the top with larger text for [Man / Made] in the center. [STUDIO / MUSEUM / HARLEM] is printed diagonally in the lower right corner. There is a paper cover visible beneath the plastic with a variety of images and text. There are images of Stephen Burks and Willard Musarurwa and wire furniture pieces from the TaTu design collaboration. The top center has an image of a bearded, unidentified man. Black text on the left reads [N / E / A]. The bottom has neon pink printed text identifying the TaTu Furniture and Accessories Collection. The catalog is signed in the lower right by Stephen Burks.
- The back cover has a paper back under the clear plastic cover. Some of the text on the front cover is on the back, as though the plastic was resting on top of another copy of the catalog and the text partially transferred. The paper cover has printed text in neon pink. [ESSAY] is printed in the center using a series of dots. There is a graphic of an artistic furniture piece titled “Material Composition 3 (Crown)” in the lower right. In the lower left corner is [Transformations / through Design: / Engaging / the Hand-Made / Keith Recker].
- The catalog includes a biography of Stephen Burks. The book has five (5) sections: Collage, Sketch, Text, Image, Essay, each with different paper stock and a variety of colors. The section heading is printed in the center of each page using a series of dots. Each section has sixteen (16) pages. The text and essays in the book were written by Naomi Beckwith, Studio Museum associate curator; Thelma Golden, Studio Museum director and chief curator; Lowery Stokes Sims, Museum of Arts and Design curator; and Keith Recker, founder and editor of HAND/EYE Magazine.

- Description
- A large necklace pendant attached to a lanyard (A2018.98.1.2.2) worn by dancer Charles Rudolph Davis, also known as Baba Chuck. The pendant is comprised of two (2) pieces: a large spoon shaped piece and a squat column shaped piece. The large spoon shaped piece has a roughly oval shaped body that narrows at the shoulders of the spoon to a rounded off point at the top. The point at the top is decorated with a molded floral pattern: two (2) five (5) petal flowers and a rose. The top of the spoon pendant has a small hole that is threaded through with a jump ring, attached to a teardrop shaped bail. The body of the spoon pendant is polished silver with cutouts shaped like Africa and Madagascar. The name [BabaChuck], in silver, runs across the top half of the Africa cut out. There are two (2) small round perforations at the bottom of the spoon pendant where it is attached it to the squat column shaped piece with three (3) jump rings on each side. The squat column shaped piece has an ovular cutout in the middle with a depiction of a stylized dancer, depicted in full length profile. The back of the pendant is undecorated.

Above the counter is a corner cabinet shelf with a honey bear with a little bit of honey inside, and a "mammy" figurine with the word "Jamaica" printed across the fruit basket on her head.

Across the entire back wall of the room are built-in wood bookshelves with an assortment of books arranged on the shelves, as well as other objects including a small round vase at top, a mask on the second row, and a tall vase at center. Some of the books are placed outward so that the covers are visible, including book on the artists Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo, a book titled "People of Peru", and a book titled "The End of Blackness." At center, in the foreground, is a low bamboo steamer chair with slat back and seat. At proper left, mostly out of frame, is a white sofa.

- Description
- This is a timeline poster about violence and killings against Black Panther members by the police. This rectangular poster consists of rows of squares that mark the days of each month. Various squares are blacked out or filled with color or patterns. These colors and patterns correspond to a legend at the bottom of the poster. Scattered throughout the poster are small black and white vignettes of individuals who were persecuted by the police. Text at the top of the poster reads "Evidence of Intimated & Fascist Crimes by USA/ The war on the Black Panther Party 1968-1969." On the poster's bottom margin in the right corner is text that reads "Source: The Black Panther Black Community News Service."
