    This document is part of a scrapbook that was compiled in 1956 and 1957 by Frances Albrier during her term as president of the San Francisco Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). The scrapbook highlights the Chapter’s efforts to register voters and educate Bay Area residents on the importance of voting as a part of the Citizenship Education Project which was jointly sponsored by the NCNW and the National Urban League.
    Description
    This newspaper clipping from the San Francisco independent depicts members of the San Francisco chapter of the National Council of Negro Women and members of the Junior Council distributing pamphlets urging that all citizens register and vote. The caption underneath the clipping, added by Frances Albrier, is typewritten in black ink and reads, "SOME VOLUNTEERS AND COUNCIL MEMBERS / return fom [sic] their Registration posts." The photograph in the clipping was taken by Cox Studios. The clipping and caption are adhered to page eleven (11) in Frances Albrier's scrapbook (2010.60.1).

    A black-and-white photograph of twelve (12) volunteers and council members recently returned from voter registration centers. They hold signs for the Youth Conservation Department (Junior Council) and the National Council of Negro Women. There is a typewritten caption on a white strip of paper below the photograph that reads, "SOME VOLUNTEERS AND COUNCIL MEMBERS RETURNING FROM REGISTRATION CENTERS." The photograph and caption are adhered to page 25 of Frances Albrier's scrapbook (2010.60.1).
