- A leather bound, illustrated bible with sides that once zipped closed to protect the pages; the zipper is now completely disconnected from the front cover. The front cover has black text in the top left quadrant which reads: [HOLY BIBLE / ILLUSTRATED]. In the bottom right quadrant in smaller text it reads: [Hattie McDaniel]. Attached to the zipper slider is a small chain with a larger metal loop at its end to ease the opening and closing of the bible. The second title page has an inscription to Hattie McDaniel from her niece.

- Description
- Episode 300 of the Revision Path podcast. It consists of an interview between Hannah Beachler and host Maurice Cherry. It opens with a brief discussion about the role and importance of production design in filmmaking, before segueing into a conversation on the difference between doing a production design for Black Panther and for Moonlight. At one point, Cherry asks if accessibility is considered in the design process, citing colorblind audiences as an example. Beachler admits that she has not thought deeply about accessibility in the past but will try to think more about it in the future. She describes the “Black Panther look-book,” noting that the team visited cities in Korea, South Africa and Oakland, California, while doing production research.
- At one point in the interview, Cherry notes that Beachler’s work is featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, telling her “[N]ow Black Panther is part of the culture. I mean, of course, you won an Oscar for it. Congratulations. Your work is in the Museum of African American History and Culture. That surprised me when I first went. I did not expect to see as much Black Panther when I went there.” In response to his congratulatory remark, Beachler states that she is honored: “I did my best and my best was good enough.”

Jordan, Spike Lee and Ta-Nehesi Coates.
- At the end of the interview, Cherry asks to wrap up and Beachler interrupts to ask if he thinks she is “intense,” to which he responds that the interview has been great. They thank each other and the episode ends with Cherry recapping the sponsors.

- Minutes from the 18th Annual Meeting of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World. The meeting was held from April 28-30, 1917. The publication consists of over one hundred (100) pages bounded together with staples and adhered to a tan paper cover. The cover features black text flanking a round emblem in the center. The text reads [ANNUAL 18th MEETING / MINUTES OF THE GRAND LODGE / IMPROVED BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS OF THE WORLD / Covened in Gray's Armory / CLEVELAND, OHIO / August 28th to 30th inclusive / NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN]. At the center of the emblem is an image of an elk under the word [INCORPORATED] at the center. Text around the circumference reads [GRAND LODGE I.B.P.O.E. OF THE WORLD / CERVUS ALCES]. There are pencil notations covering the last page and back cover. Printed at the center of the back cover is a union logo and the text [73 / MOONEY'S NEW YORK]

- A hand altered t-shirt worn by Cleveland Browns football player Andrew Hawkins. The shirt has been cut with rough edges across the bottom and along the sleeves, making it into a cropped tank top. White text is printed on the front reading "JUSTICE / FOR / TAMIR RICE / AND JOHN / CRAWFORD III". On the back, white printed text reads "THE / REAL / BATTLE / OF / OHIO" with the words "OF" and "OHIO" in black over a white filled outline in the shape of the state of Ohio. A manufacturer's label with size, style, and fiber content is sewn at the interior center back neck.

- Newsletter of “The Nation’s Prayer Call” from the Zion Baptist Church. The newsletter has two pages total with black printed text on both sides. The paper is yellowed and creased. The header of the front cover begins with [THE NATION’S PRAYER CALL / PRAYER-FELLOWSHIP-SERVICE] with a quote from the biblical Book of Chronicles. The front page article is titled [Will Baptists Vote Against Integration?] A second article about the Baptist World Alliance with an image of Dr. Arnold T. Ohrn is on the right. Articles by Benjamin E. Mays and L. V. Booth and an invocation for a NAACP meeting are included in the newsletter. The reverse has additional prayers, articles, and an advertisement for careful driving by the National Prayer League.

- A black and white photograph of the Oberlin Academy Preparatory School Class of 1892. There are three (3) rows of students. The first row is one (1) girl in a white dress. Her hair is pulled back and she has curls in the front. She appears to be kneeling on the ground.
- The middle row contains four (4) girls in white dresses. They are sitting down. The girl on the far proper right side has her hair pulled back with curls in the front. The girl to her left has curly hair which is also pulled back. The two girls to her left do not have curls, but their hair is pulled back with a bow.
- The back row contains six (6) students. Three girls in white dresses and three boys in black suits. The boy in the middle is also wearing a black tie. There are two (2) girls on the proper right side. They have their hair pulled back with curls in the front. Eva Dyson is the female student on the proper left side. Her hair is pulled back as well. The boy to her right is wearing glasses.
- The photo was taken in an interior setting. A rug, a chair, and some plants can be seen. All of the students are holding what appears to be a diploma in their hands. The photograph is mounted on a black board. The board appears to be marbled because of age and some of the corners are torn.
- The image appears to have yellowed with age.
- There are some spots on the back of the board. There is also a diagonal white label on the proper left side of the board. It reads [1892 Graduation/10.- DC] in pencil.

- A direct descendent of Elizabeth Hemings, John Freeman Shorter grew up in Washington, D.C. as a free man. By the spring of 1863, he was living in Ohio when he left for Boston to enlist in the 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. A white officer once described Shorter as “tall, of muscular build, … hair light, complexion almost white, and blue eyes, whose lively expression brightened a face otherwise somewhat grave.” Shorter became one of only two other fully-commissioned black officers in the 55th Massachusetts—“Three as worthy men as ever carried a gun,” declared the chaplain of the 55th. All three of these officers were connected to Monticello. Shorter was the only direct descendent of the enslaved at Monticello; the other two were connected through marriage.
- As the historian of the regiment wrote, Shorter had “every soldierly quality, from scrupulous neatness to unflinching bravery. He well merited the reputation of the best non-commissioned officer in the regiment. As such, he was selected for the first promotion from the ranks.” However, the army would not formally muster or recognize them as officers because of the color of their skin. Finally in the summer of 1865, when the fighting had ceased, the three men were officially commissioned as officers.
- African American soldiers in the Massachusetts regiments were promised equal treatment, including equal pay. However, the men received half of the pay that their white counterparts received. Shorter became a leading force in the fight for equal pay. To protest this pay inequality, the soldiers went without pay for a year and a half. In July 1864, the men reached out to the president himself. By October, they finally received full pay. In a celebration at their camp on Folly Island, Shorter spoke on behalf of the regiment, saying that it was their primary responsibility as men to “prove our fitness for liberty and citizenship, in the new order of things now arising in this, our native land.”
- Three weeks after this victory, the soldiers took up arms in the Battle of Honey Hill (South Carolina, November 1864). In this battle, Shorter was wounded in the leg, but he refused to stop fighting. As one soldier wrote, “Sergt. Shorter is wounded in the knee, yet will not go to the rear.” In August 1865, Shorter was honorably discharged, returning to Ohio to marry his fiancé. Sadly, Shorter succumbed to small pox, dying shortly before arriving home.

- A handwritten diary encased in a red leather cover with "Diary / 1865" embossed in gold lettering at top center surrounded by an ornate wreath. The diary is inscribed on the front endpaper in both pencil and ink. The diary begins with several printed pages including a page outlining eclipses that occurred in 1865, a calendar, a table of stamp duties and rates of postage. The diary entries were done predominantly in pencil. The diary begins on January 1, 1865 with the last entry occurring on September 30, 1865. The diary ends with a memorandum section and an accounts paid section. Both of these sections were used by Lieutenant John Freeman Shorter. A back pocket in the back of the diary contains two loose sheets of paper. One of the pieces of paper is a promotion certification for a second lieutenant in the 55th Massachusetts volunteer regiment. The document is written in ink. It is dated April 19, 1865. Additional notes are written in pencil on the other side of the document. The second piece of paper has a list of people’s names, dollar amounts and dates written on both sides in both ink and pencil.

- Phil Hutchings recalls growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, his parents' involvement in many civic organizations, and attending Howard University. He remembers joining the Nonviolent Action Group (a precursor to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), protesting at the White Rice Inn in Maryland, and working with the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. He discusses moving to Newark, New Jersey, to work for SNCC, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and the Newark Community Union Project. He also recalls organizing District of Columbia residents for the March on Washington and witnessing the Newark riots in 1967.
