- A newspaper clipping of an article titled “Howard Conference A Rallying for Black Female Architects” from the December 15, 1983 edition of the Washington Post. The article begins with a quote from architect Renee Kemp-Rotan, “When I was in architecture school at Syracuse University in the early 1970s, I was the only black female there.”] Kemp-Rotan organized the one day conference at Howard University which […brought together about 100 black female architects, apprentices and students from all around the country to exchange stories of isolation, racism and sexism.] Architect Norma Sklarek, keynote speaker for the conference, is featured and there is an image of her on the right side. The reverse has cut-off images from other articles.

- A color photographic slide featuring activist Barbara Smith with a group of people. She is holding a folded yellow banner and wears three buttons on her red blouse. The button closest to her left arm has two parallel white stripes. The top stripe is interrupted by overlapping Mars symbols and the bottom stripe is interrupted by overlapping Venus symbols. The button in the middle is white with the words [Revolutionary sisters of color] written in the middle in pink ink. The third button, which is closest to her right shoulder, is rectangular with a black background and white words and drawings. The word [BLACK] is written at the top of the button and faces are drawn in white ink below, occupying most of the button. Below the drawings, [LESBIANS & GAYS] is printed and the words [PRIDE DAY 93] are at the bottom. Thus, the entire pin reads [BLACK LESBIANS AND GAYS PRIDE DAY 93]. Behind and to her proper right is a crowd of people. In the background over her proper left shoulder is a blue and white placard reading [End Discrimination! LIFT THE MILITARY BAN].
- The number [34] is printed in black ink on the top left corner of the front of the gray encasement that houses the slide. On the back of the encasement, [7] is written in what appears to be graphite.

- Description
- A large necklace pendant attached to a lanyard (A2018.98.1.2.2) worn by dancer Charles Rudolph Davis, also known as Baba Chuck. The pendant is comprised of two (2) pieces: a large spoon shaped piece and a squat column shaped piece. The large spoon shaped piece has a roughly oval shaped body that narrows at the shoulders of the spoon to a rounded off point at the top. The point at the top is decorated with a molded floral pattern: two (2) five (5) petal flowers and a rose. The top of the spoon pendant has a small hole that is threaded through with a jump ring, attached to a teardrop shaped bail. The body of the spoon pendant is polished silver with cutouts shaped like Africa and Madagascar. The name [BabaChuck], in silver, runs across the top half of the Africa cut out. There are two (2) small round perforations at the bottom of the spoon pendant where it is attached it to the squat column shaped piece with three (3) jump rings on each side. The squat column shaped piece has an ovular cutout in the middle with a depiction of a stylized dancer, depicted in full length profile. The back of the pendant is undecorated.

- Letter from DL Chandler to Norma Merrick Sklarek. The white paper has a black and red printed letterhead from the Department of Architecture, School of Architecture and Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The letter is handwritten in blue ink and dated in the upper right corner. The letter begins [DEAR MS. SKLAREK - / I AM VERY SORRY FOR THE LONG DELAY IN RELAYING YOUR COPY TO YOU.] Chandler discusses a potential topic, “Architectural History of Black America,” for a PhD thesis and asks for permission to include research on Sklarek. Chandler also asks for information about other African American women architects to contact. The reverse is blank.

- Typed "Mozart" Travel Permit for Hall Johnson issued by Harry R. Swanson, U.S. Civilian Chief of the Travel Branch. The permit allows Hall Johnson to travel on the US Military Duty Train "Mozart" to or from Vienna from September 28th, 1951 to October 8th, 1951. The document is double sided. The front side has Hall Johnson's information, the back side has a list of rules relating to travel on the "Mozart."
