The top right corner featurs a white nurse's cap. The title [THE GUARDIAN] runs upper left to lower right diagonally across the book, and in the lower left is an golden eliptical ring reading [HOMER G. PHILLIPS / 1919 / 1968 / H.T.S.N.] in blue text. In the upper left corner is a small piece of white tape with [P. PAYNE] handwritten in green ink. The interior of the book features graduating classes over the course of the school's history with text and black-and-white photographs. There are scattered handwritten notes throughout the book, some on separate pieces of paper.
A graduation program for the Homer G. Phillips Hospital School of Nursing. The event was held on Friday, September 5, 1947 at Stowe Teachers College in Saint Louis, Missouri. The program is a single sheet of paper that was previously folded in half on a vertical crease. The program is made of white paper with black text. The front page reads: [HOMER G. PHILLIPS HOSPITAL / School of Nursing / GRADUATION EXERCISES / Friday, September 5, 1947 / 8 P. M. / STOWE TEACHERS COLLEGE / 2615 NORTH PENDLETON AVENUE / SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI]. There is a stylized line forming a border across the top and bottom of the page. A graphic of a knot is located above and below the date and time. There is a printing logo centered at the bottom next to the number . The program is listed on the left inside page. The seventeen (17) graduating students are listed on the right page. Ushers are listed on the back page.
A newsletter titled "The Nightingale," from January 1947, identified as Volume 1, Number 1. The newsletter consists of black ink printed on white paper. It is comprised of seven (7) pages stapled together in the top left corner. The cover design and section headings were hand drawn, while the remainder of the text appears typewritten. At the top of the cover is stylized text that reads: [The / NIGHTINGALE] with smaller text written underneath, [VOL 1 JANUARY 1947 no. 1]. To the left of "NIGHTINGALE" is a drawing of an academic lamp. In the center, is a large drawing of a nurse's cap surrounded by smaller images of a needle, watch, books, inkwell, mug, pan, and other medical implements. Underneath is the year  in block letters with [GREETINGS] overtop. At the bottom right is the name [P BROWN]. The newsletter includes sections on Music, Class Notes, Events, and Humor. The name [Pauline M. Brown] is inscribed on the back of the last page in the top right corner.
