"When an usher who saw me with my camera took my arm and led me down to the front of the church with the rest of the media, I was so nervous that I almost froze up. But after a few minutes of finding out that no one was paying any attention to me I loosened up, raised my camera and started shooting."
This black and white photograph shows members of the King family and Harry Belafonte seated inside Ebenezer Baptist Church for Martin Luther King Jr.'s commemorative birthday service in 1969. Media equipment is set up behind the family and one of the lights is shining at the camera. The bottom proper right corner of the photograph is obscured. The back of the photograph has a manufacturer's mark, photographer's stamp and a handwritten inscription.
