This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
This document is a payment request sent to Edward Rouzee requesting payment to John Pearson of twenty-five (25) dollars being half the sum charged for "your negro fellow's passage from Bermuda". The request is written and signed by James Spilman. On the back is the receipt written by John Pearson on behalf of Edward Rouzee. The document consists of a single page, with handwritten text in black ink on both sides. There are large ink spots at the top and bottom of the document, just to the right of center.
