We, the undersigned members of the Board of the Colored school in this place respectfully petition the Freedman's Bureau for assistance in finishing our school house.
While building it our funds were exhausted, and it has since been impossible to raise more from our people. The house has been used during a part of the past summer by scholars, but unless it can be finished it will be entirely useless for winter occupation and we will be obliged to dispense with a school. There is no other building in the town which we could use for the purpose.
The building now needs to be floored, lathed and plastered, windows and benches are required, and also additional store.
