vs.
Thomas W. Hill
On Examination before me this the 26th day of May 1866. Tempy Hill Freedwoman, Confesses that when she saw Defendant strike Liddy Hill Freedwoman, she stopped her horse, unhitched him from the plough, and took off the swingle tree, and came up towards Thomas. W. Hill. with the intention of fighting him. and to take up for her color, and that she cursed said Hill and called him a Damd red eyed son of a bitch, and that after he Hill took the swingle tree from her and struck her with his stick, and choked her, and drew his Pistol to shoot me. that she took up a chunk of wood, and struck said Hill on the head with it
Taken before me date above written

Tempy her x mark Hill
After hearing the statement of T.W. Hill, and the above confession of Tempy, I committed her to jail, on her failing to give Bond in one hundred Dollars for her appearance at County Court. After some time her friends succeeded in making the Bond and she was released from Jail. You can with some degree of certainty determine whether equal justice will be done by the Civil County Court, by comparing those two cases to wit Lydia Hill Freedwoman vs Thomas .W. Hill & Thomas W Hill vs Tempy Hill Freedwoman, charge in both cases Assault & Battery
