- Description
- A straw hat with net and a cream peony flower decoration. The crow and the brim of the hat are made of two separate pieces of woven straw that are stitched together. The crown of the hat is fitted to the underbrim, and the top of the crown is seen at the center of the hat. The hat has a wide, stiff brim that slopes slightly downwards at the top then tapers off flat. Cream nylon net is applied to the top of the hat and is secured to the edge of the crown at the hat's interior. A large cream peony made of polyester organza with paper pistils is attached to the front of the hat, off set to the proper right. Leaves made of polyester plain weave with wire are attached to the flower and a wire stem covered in plastic continues up to the crown. There is metal wire attracted to the edge of the brim and the crown. The edge of the brim is pulled to the inside of the hat and hand stitched to the underbrim to secure the metal wire. The crown's interior is lined with cream net. There is a plastic comb stitched to the center front edge of the crown's interior. Two hat grips made of metal wire covered in cream synthetic velveteen are placed at each side of the crown's interior. A cream rayon petersham ribbon is stitched to the inside edge of the crown. A thin band of cream synthetic velveteen is added to the edge of the crown. There is a label at the center back of the crown stitched along the rayon ribbon that reads [Hattie Carnegie].
