Description
Black and white image of Mary Coley with eyes closed, resting on a rocking chair. She is seen in a carpeted room with furniture. The carpet is a stylized foliage pattern with leaves on a dark background. The furniture in the room takes up the right half of the image. Left of center, in the upper half, is a chair covered with newspapers and clothes. A folded newspaper rests on the seat of the chair with a crumbled, unidentified piece of clothing on top. On the chair back are folded towels and clothes. In the upper right corner is a bureau with a picture frame, tray of birthing tools, and additional folded newspapers and clothes. In the bottom right corner is the end of a wooden bed frame. Coley sits left of center, taking up most of the left side of the image. She wears a dark dress with a white, square collar and white cuffs on sleeves that end at the elbow. Her head rests on the back of the rocking chair as arms rest on the armrests as well as her lap. She also wears a white apron.
