Description
Printed marriage license from Talbot County, Georgia certifying the marriage of Ezekiel Leonard and Mary Hammond. The document is cream colored with printed and handwritten text. The text reads [The State of Georgia, Talbot County. / To any Judge, Justice of the Inferior Court, Justice of the Peace, / or Minister of the Gospel: / YOU ARE HEREBY AUTHORIZED / To join Ezekiel Leonard (Col’) and / Mary Hammond (Col’) / IN THE HOLY STATE OF / MATRIMONY, / According to the Constitution and Laws of the State, and for so doing this be your / sufficient / LICENSE. / given under my Official Signature and Seal of Office this 8 day of Jan 1869 / A. W. Bethune Ordinary.] The bottom third of the document only has printed text with the spaces to be handwritten left blank. It reads [State of Georgia_County / I Hereby certify that_and_were duly joined and Matrimony, by me this_day of_18_ / The above will not be received on return unless stamped with a Revenue Stamp of five cents.] An imprinted stamp is on the front at center left. The stamp reads [ORDINARY COURT / TALBOT CO. / GEORGIA.] Handwritten in brown ink on the left side of the document is [Ezekiel Leonard Jr.] handwritten in brown ink on the back the document at top is [1869.]
