- Description
- A single sheet handwritten document of brown ink on blue paper documenting the sworn statement of James W. Simmons attesting that "Elizabeth Only, the negro Woman now in my presence, is the daughter of Rachel Only, a free Woman of Colour, that the said Elizabeth Only was born free." The document is dated June 20, 1857 in Frederick County, Maryland and is signed in the bottom right corner by the Justice of the Peace. There are no marks or inscriptions on the verso.
