- This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
- Description
- This handwritten, single page document is a payment receipt written by B.D. Letty that states that he recieved of Mr. Edward Rouzee twenty-five (25) dollars on account of Mr. James Spelman, for "bringing a negro man from Turks Island." Letty questions whether or not the amount should be twenty-five (25) or fifty (50) dollars but will wait until he receives further instructions from Spelman. At the bottom right is the signature of B.D. Letty. The opposite side of the documents notes that it was received. Both sides are in black ink.
