- This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
- Description
- This handwritten, single page document is a tax account and payment receipt for Edward Rouzee for the year 1825.The taxable property is listed as "454 acres and 293 acres of land, 27 slaves, 10 horses, and 2 gigs, 25 levies. The total amount owed is fifty-four (54) dollars and forty-nine (49) cents. The document is signed at the bottom right by Thomas Matthews. On the back is a note with the amount and the date October 23, 1825. Both sides are in black ink. The bottom edge of the paper is torn unevenly.
