- This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
- Description
- This handwritten, single page document is an account of taxes owed by John Rouzee's estate to the Sheriff of Essex County for the year 1832. The taxable property is listed as "36 slaves, 6 horses and Coachee," as well as four hundred and ninety-seven (497) acres of land, six hundred and thirty-nine (639) acres of land from the Richard Rouzee estate, twenty-one (21) county and poor levies at one (1) dollar and twelve (12) cents each. The total tax amount due was fifty-four (54) dollars and sixty-one (61) cents. It is noted that payment was recieved from Edward Rouzee October 23, 1832. The document is signed in the bottom right by Robert Hill. On the back is written "Rouzee Jn Estate" along with notes of the date and amount of payment. Both sides are written in black ink.
