This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
Description
This handwritten, single page document is an account of taxes owed by John Rouzee for the year 1813. The taxable property is listed as "34 negroes," four hundred and ninety-seven (497) acres of land, twenty-nine (29) levies at seventy-nine (79) cents each, six hundred and thiry-nine (639) acres beloning to the Richard Rouzee Estate. The total tax amount of twent (20) dollars and forty-one (41) cents was paid in full by Edward Rouzee October 27, 1813. On the reverse is written "1813 Oct." Both sides are written in black ink.
