This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.
Description
This handwritten, single page document is an accounting of taxes owed to the Sheriff of Essex County by Edward Rouzee for the year 1815. The taxable property is listed as "27 neg. 13 Ho. 42Cable Car. Horses, side board, 4 tables + Bureau," seven hundred forty-eight and one quarter (748 1/4) acres of land and twenty six (26) levies. It is noted at the bottom that payment was received on the 26th of October by Alexander Furley. The document is signed in the bottom right by Robert Hill. The document is written in brown ink. On the reverse, the type of account and the date and amount paid is written in black ink.
