- Description
- A framed needlepoint reproduction of Eva's Forebodings, an illustrated plate from Harriet Beecher Stowe's “Uncle Tom's Cabin.” The needlepoint depicts Uncle Tom and Eva St. Clare seated by a river. There is a sailboat on the right side of the needlepoint and a palm tree on the left. Eva St. Clare wears a white dress and is holding an open book in her lap. Her blond hair is parted at the center and barley ringlets frame her face. Uncle Tom is seated beside her on her proper right side. He is wearing a blue jacket, white shirt, and white pants. A hat rests by his foot. Red needlepoint at the bottom reads [Sarah Eliz.th. Pring.aged / 12yr [inserted above] s [inserted above] / 185[2?] / Eva's forebodings]. The frame is wood, decorated with a plaster molded Baroque motif, and painted in bronze. The needlepoint is covered with glass. The back of the frame is covered with black paper and has picture frame wire stretched across the center. Adhered to the paper is a white paper adhesive label for TruGuard UV protective glass with care and cleaning instructions. A second green adhesive label with gold text has the name and address of the framer, [The Art Place] of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
