- A softcover copy of In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens by Alice Walker. The softcover book has an adhesive binding. The book has a purple and white front cover with brown and black type and a purple-and-white headshot of Walker on the front jacket. Walker looks at the viewer, smiling. She holds her proper right hand under her chin and rests her cheek on her raised, proper right index finger. She is wearing a woven wrap, patterned with rectangular blocks and metal hoop earrings. In the bottom right quadrant is a framed, light tan text box outlined in white and black with the title of the book printed inside in brown text of varying sizes that reads [IN / SEARCH / OF OUR / MOTHERS' / GARDENS / Womanist / Prose by / ALICE / WALKER]. Small black text printed in the top left corner of the text box reads [A Harvest/HBJ Book]. At the top of the spine is the title of the book printed in black text that reads [IN SEARCH OF OUR / MOTHERS' GARDENS] and [Alice / Walker] printed in purple text at the center. At the bottom of the spine is the publisher’s logo and name, [HBJ / HARCOURT / BRACE / JOVANOVICH] printed in black-outlined white text and black text. The back cover is light tan. At the top is a two paragraph book description. Below is a white and black outlined text box with blurbs printed in black text from Newsweek, the San Francisco Chronicle Book Review, New Statesman, and the Los Angeles Times. The ISBN number is printed in the bottom right corner above the barcode. To the left of the barcode are photography and design credits and the publisher information. The interior pages are off-white paper with black type. There are also a few small decorative illustrations, a double quatrefoil, on some of the pages. The book has 397 pages.
