- Description
- A hardcover copy of Africa: The Golden Book Picture Atlas of The World, Book 5 by Golden Press. The hardcover book is paperboard bound and laminated. The front cover is two shades of two shades of mulberry purple and features a large color topographic illustration of the continent of Africa and the island of Madagascar featured prominently over the bottom two-thirds of the cover. Near Egypt is a small illustration of the Sphinx in profile. Along the west coast of the Africa is an illustration of three men in traditional regalia wearing red calve length skirt wraps, overlaid with a white aprons with black and red patterns. They are also wearing tall headdresses and two are carrying spears. Near the east coast of South Africa is an illustration of a zebra. At the top of the front of the cover is a darker, mulberry field divided into two sections by a white dotted line. Printed in white text of varying sizes on the left is the title and subtitle of the book, [AFRICA / THE COMPLETE STORY OF THE CONTINENT / GEOGRAPHY AND RESOURCES ? INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURE / PEOPLE AND PLACES ? WITH MANY MAPS, FACTS AND FIGURES]. To the right is additional gold and white text that reads, [THE / GOLDEN BOOK / PICTURE / ATLAS / OF THE WORLD / ?Book 5?]. The spine of the book features the series number, subject, and the book title: [5 / AFRICA / The Golden Book PICTURE ATLAS OF THE WORLD]. The publishers name, [GOLDEN / PRESS], is printed at the bottom of the spine below their logo, a winged sphinx. The back of the book is primarily mulberry purple and features a white illustration of a two-dimensional globe. The pastedown paper and flypages are also mulberry purple. A centered blue ink inscription on title page reads [To Hazel & Clay / The Haynes] and [Easter 1961] in top right corner. The interior pages are white with black text and feature color illustrations, color maps, and color photos. The book has 479 pages followed by a page titled [AFRICA-FACTS AND FIGURES].
