Description
A softcover copy of Maine Coastal Cooking and the Accomplished Cook, Or, the Whole Art and Mystery of Cookery, Fitted for All Degrees and Qualities: Down East Recipes Dating from 1664 compiled by Ruth Wiggins and Gertrude Hupper. The book’s front and back covers are heavy weight paper and the pages are held together with a white, plastic, comb spine that is broken off at the top. The front cover is primarily white with red bands at the top and bottom. White text inside the red band at the tops reads [Coastal Cooking] and text inside the bottom band reads [Down East Recipes dating from 1664]. At the center, set against a white background, is a large illustration of a black, wood burning stove with the text [ATLANTIC / 702] illustrated on the front of the stove. A teakettle and saucepan rest on the stove’s surface. On the left is a tub of split wooden logs. Sitting on a shelf above the stove, on the left, are three kerosene lamps. A book with the title, [Farmer’s / Almanac], hangs from a nail below the shelf. Above the stove, on the right, is a framed needlepoint with red text that reads [GOD BLESS / OUR HOME]. The back cover also features a large black, white, and red illustration of a room with a partially open door with a view of a small pathway leading to another house. Inside the room is a wooden cabinet below a suspended kerosene lamp, a hanging mirror, and a small mantel centered below the mirror. To the left of the cabinet is a red highchair. At the top of the back cover is an illustrated banner with black text that reads [The Accomplished COOK: Or, The Art and Mystery of Cookery]. Printed in a red band at the bottom is white text that reads [Three Hundred Years of Good Eating]. The interior pages are white and light green. The title page, introduction, and index are printed in green text on light green paper. The remaining pages are primarily printed on white pages in black and maroon text. The book also features illustrations, including reproductions of etchings and hand-drawn images. The last third of the book are entirely light green pages with green ink and white pages with maroon ink. The pages are numbered up to page 86. Following page 86 is an unnumbered section of 30 pages titled [My Recipes].
