2011.12.6ab: A console (a) with a furniture key (b) from the Rock Rest Tourist Home.
2011.12.6a: A console from the Rock Rest Tourist Home. The dark wooden console has a rectangular tabletop with an open bottom shelf and curved legs. There is a repeating carved, decorative pattern of double concentric circles on the skirt below the tabletop. The front of the console features a drawer with a keyhole. The keyhole is embellished with carved frame and flourishes on either side. Attached to the base are four cabriole legs that feature carved scrolls at the top, taper inwards, and flare outwards into small scrolls at the feet. The legs are connected on the short ends with two horizontal bars and five carved wavy vertical bars. The bottom shelf is open with nine, carved, fully rounded slats at the center.
2011.12.6b: A furniture key to a console from the Rock Rest Tourist Home. The brass barrel key has a hollow, cylindrical shaft, and a single toothed end. The key’s bow is roughly oval shaped and features a large cutout at the center with concave sides and chevrons at the top and bottom. The central cutout is flanked on either side by small oval cutouts. The base of the bow flares outwards and terminates with vertical hatch marks just above the shaft.
