Description
A red Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hood, associated with robe 2011.144.1.1ab. The machine-sewn red synthetic satin hood is conical-shaped and has a back flap with squared corners.The black flap has been lined with red synthetic satin while the hat portion is unlined. The hood has one (1) blue rayon tassel attached to the point of the hood. On the proper left and right sides of the hat portion are identical white embroidered designs of two concentric circles with [REALM / OF/ FLA.] embroidered between and in the center of the circles.
Statement
Objects depicting symbols of hate or related to organized hate groups may be offensive and disturbing, but the NMAAHC aims to include them in the Collection to present and preserve the historical context in which they were created and used.
