Description
An envelope (a) with enclosed letter (b) sent to midwife Amanda Carey Carter from an expectant mother regarding Carter potentially attending a birth at the woman's home. The letter is handwritten in blue ink on a single sheet of white paper, folded to form two joined pages. At top right of the first page is the date [Aug 24, 1972] and the letter begins [Dear Mrs. Carter, / Yes, Mrs. Fisk phoned me and told / me about your being able to get / up here for my delivery if its after / the 18th.]. The letter continues to provide directions and instructions for Carter's trip to the woman's home. The letter is in a standard white envelope, addressed to [Mrs. Amanda Carter] in Farmville, Virginia with a return address for in Crozet, Virginia. The postmark is dated August 28, 1972 in Crozet.
