- An envelope (a) with letter (b) sent to midwife Amanda Carey Carter from a new mother regarding Carter potentially attending a birth at the woman's home. The letter is handwritten in blue ink on both sides of a single sheet of lined white paper. At top right of the first page is the date [Sept 14, 1972] and the letter begins [Dear Mrs. Carter, / Thank you for your letter. But it's all over with. The baby was born last Tues, Sept 5.]. The letter continues to detail the birth, which was attended by a midwife named Mrs. Fisk and thanks Carter for her willingness to travel for the birth if she had been needed.
