Many adoring fans sought to get close enough to Harry Belfaonte to shake his hand, but because of this extraordinary event for which he was in Atlanta, they showed restraint and respect during his visit.
Description
This black and white photograph shows Harry Belafonte seated in a car after the first commemorative birthday event for Martin Luther King Jr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1969. Belafonte is smiling slightly and looking out of the car window toward the camera. There is an unidentified man seated next to Belafonte and an unidentified child seated behind them. There is a crowd standing behind the car. The back of the photograph has a manufacturer's mark and printer's inscriptions.
