- We can see a street scene on Auburn Avenue outside of Ebenezer Baptist Church immediately after the first memorial service for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This was nine months after he was assasinated [sic] in Memphis, Tennessee while standing on the second floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel.
- Description
- This black and white photograph shows an unidentified crowd on Auburn Avenue outside of Ebenezer Baptist Church after the first commemorative event on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in 1969. There are a number of individuals in uniform throughout the image. Two can be seen at proper right in front wearing helmets. Two more are in dress uniform at proper left in front of a car. There in another grouping standing by two upright flags off center. A press camera can be seen in the center of the photograph. The rest of the unidentified crowd is dressed in civilian clothing and dispersed in the background. The back of the photograph has a manufacturer's mark, and handwritten and printer's inscriptions.
