- In 1969, the First National Bank (on left) was the tallest building in downtown Atlanta. The Regency Hyatt Hotel (right) was a skyscraper, and the Equitable Building (center) was on it's [sic] way to becoming another tall structure in downown. I took this picture from the Jackson Street Bridge.
- Description
- This black and white photograph was taken after the first commemorative event on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in 1969. The photograph was taken at Jackson Street Bridge. The tallest building at proper right behind a grouping of shorter buildings is the First National Bank of Atlanta. The tall building with the dark finish that rises above the rest of the structures in the center of the image is the Equitable Life Assurance Building. At proper left the Hyatt Regency Atlanta can been seen with the distinctive dome of the Polaris restaurant on top. The back of the photograph has a manufacturer's mark, and handwritten and printer's inscriptions.
