- A booklet copy of Carpet-Bag Misrule in Louisiana: The Tragedy of the Reconstruction Era Following the War Between the States," issued September 1, 1938 by the Louisiana State Museum. The cover features the title in gothic font at the top: [Carpet-Bag Misrule in Louisiana / The Tragedy of The Reconstruction Era / FOLLOWING THE / War Between The States] and a black-and-white photograph image of a large carpet bag at the center. Beneath the image is the text [THE "CARPET-BAG" / LOUISIANA'S PART IN MAINTAINING WHITE / SUPREMACY IN THE SOUTH / A PUBLICATION OF THE LOUISIANA STATE MUSEUM / NEW ORLEANS U.S.A. / ISSUED SEPTEMBER 1, 1938 PRICE 25 CENTS]. The booklet begins with a foreward by the editor, James J.A. Fortier, which closes with a dedication "to the patriotic Louisianians who in the aftermath of the War Between The States so soundly, valiantly, and heroically gave their all to maintain White Supremacy as a cardinal principle of a wise, stable, and practical government." This is followed by portrait of Richard Webster Leche [Governor of a Greater Louisiana / leader in the Solution of / Southern Economic Problems.]. There are 103 pages with black-and-white portraits, illustrations, photographs, and charts throughout. The back cover has the seal of the Louisiana State Museum, featuring a pelican with the motto "Union Justice & Confidence," printed at center.
