- Description
- A full color chromolithographic print titled THE DARKTOWN HOOK AND LADDER CORPS. The racist caricature depicts six firemen. Four of the firemen are standing on a table and working a water pump. One of the firemen is holding a water hose and spraying a red and white striped pole with a blue hat on it. Another fireman is waving his helmet and a bugle. People are on the left side looking on. One of these people is dressed as in a blue jacket and has red and white striped pants and holding a trophy with “PRIZE MUG” written on it. Copyright information, the publisher and the title are printed in black ink under the image. Printed on the bottom left corner is “CURRIER & IVES SERIES, No. 3.” Printed below the title is “Now den! Shake her up once moah fur de Mug.”
