- A December 3, 1951 issue of Life magazine containing a photographic essay by W. Eugene Smith of the midwife Maude E. Callen. The front cover of the magazine features a black and white photograph of a woman sitting sideways, with knees bent and her face looking towards the camera. In the upper left corner is the [LIFE] depicted in large white letters against a red rectangular background. Cover headlines include ['I SAW THE BULLET THAT HIT ME' / A MARINE'S LETTER TO HIS FATHER] and [BEST TOYS / TO GIVE / YOUR CHILD] in the upper right corner and [CHRISTMAS / LINGERIE] in the bottom left. A red band runs along the bottom edge of the cover with the issue price [20 CENTS] and date [DECEMBER 3, 1951] at the right side.
