- Description
- A tied quilt made from suiting fabrics in muted tones of blue, gray, black, and brown hand sewn together with pink thread using a herringbone stitch. Most of the pieces are of uniform rectangular size, suggesting they are from a salesman's sample or swatch book. There are four larger blocks at the center of the quilt, and some of the blocks surrounding them were cut down. Flower petals are embroidered at the center of each block in different colored thread. The bedcover is backed with a pink cotton flannel, which is turned to the front and hand stitched to form the binding. A thin layer of wool batting is placed between the top and the backing. The top and back are attached with thread ties in different colors, which are placed so that they make the center of the embroidered flowers in the blocks on the top. A muslin sleeve is hand sewn to the back along one side.
- The muslin sleeve (2013.162.8_acc1) was removed during conservation treatment in 2016.
