- Description
- Magazine clipping advertising The Plantation Club, NYC. This page is taken from the magazine Vogue, May 1924 issue. The upper two thirds of the page are filled with a pencil drawing done in black white and grey tones. It depicts a stage scene with seven female dancers. Six dancers form a semicircle, and the seventh stands out in front. They wear costumes consisting of a bikini top, and a short skirt ending in a large feathery tutu. The background dancers have feather anklets, while the foreground dancer has feather anklets and bracelets. She stands with her left arm held straight out to the side and her right arm held out with arm bent and hand at shoulder height. The dancers are crossed by two spotlight beams, one from the rear of the stage and one from the right. Behind the dancers is a stage set that consists of a log cabin, a fence, a tree and a birdhouse on a post. In the log cabin window is a roughly sketched figure of a large woman wearing a shawl. At the bottom right corner of the page, in front of the staged scene, is a square table with three people sitting around it. The table is covered with a light colored cloth, and has a wine bottle and three place settings. The people around the table turn in their seats to watch the stage. Two are women in evening gowns, and the third is a man in a suit. Next to the table is a block of text that advertises the Plantation Club. The text begins "'Papa, Mamma, Baby, Daddy, Down in Tennessee'/ Actually at The Plantation, in New York." Along the top margin is the date "May, 1924" in the top left corner. In the top right corner is the page "57."
