Description
A calf-length, olive-green cotton robe used by a Ku Klux Klan member. The robe has long full sleeves which flare towards the wrist. Five dark green, plastic buttons are on the front of the robe at center. The robe does not have a collar. A cotton belt made of the same fabric as the robe is sewn to the robe at the center back and ties in front.
Statement
Objects depicting symbols of hate or related to organized hate groups may be offensive and disturbing, but the NMAAHC aims to include them in the Collection to present and preserve the historical context in which they were created and used. Objects of this type provide an important historical record from which to study and evaluate history and culture.
