- An albumen cabinet card photograph of Colonel John McDonald, U. S. Army 9th Cavalry Troop D. Captured in studio, posed in front of a veranda backdrop, Colonel McDonald wears a small cap with crossed swords emblem, dark long sleeve jacket, bright gloves, striped trousers, and dress shoes. He stands with his right arm atop a stone-like prop. On either side of him within the backdrop are small stone columns with plant filled pots on top. Within the brown border of the photograph’s card, in light colored ink, is: [McCORMICK ARKANSAS CITY, KAN]. On the reverse of the photographic card are various handwritten inscriptions, to include: [Col. John McDonald / Troops D 9th Calv USA].
