A 1982 Naval Academy graduate, Michelle Howard commanded Task Force 151 in 2009, which freed Captain Richard Phillips and other hostages from the Maersk Alabama. In 2014, she became the first female four-star admiral in the Navy, as well as the highest-ranking Black woman in the military, and was appointed vice chief of naval operations.
Description
A pair of US Navy fatigue pants worn by Admiral Michelle Howard as rear admiral (lower half). The straight leg pants are made from a brown, tan, and beige toned camouflage print nylon and cotton blend fabric. They close at the center front waist with four (4) tan plastic buttons hidden by an additional placket. There are seven (7) self-fabric belt loops around the waist band, as well as adjustable side waist straps of tan canvas tape with a black metal buckle. There are two (2) inset pockets, one at each side waist. There are two (2) pleated patch pockets, one on each leg above the knee, with a flap closure that fastens with two (2) tan plastic buttons hidden by a placket. There is a self-fabric rectangular patch on each knee and a rounded self-fabric crotch patch. The hem of the pant legs contain a tan ribbon. The pants have two (2) back waist inset pockets with a flap closure that fastens with two (2) tan plastic buttons hidden by a placket. Above the proper right back pocket is a rectangular patch with embroidery in brown reading "HOWARD". A manufacturer tag is sewn at the center back waist band that reads "PROPPER / THE BRAND THAT'S BATTLE TESTED". Two additional tags with size, style, and fiber content are sewn at the interior proper right back side waist.
