NC - Cape Fear River. So many plantations were very remote, not near a city at all. Here, we see the city of Wilmington so near. –Description from photographer, David Soliday.
Description
A digital aerial photograph of remnant rice fields on Eagle Island in North Carolina. The island, which features remnant rice fields with vestigial canals and “quarter ditches,” occupies much of the image. However, parts of Wilmington can also be seen in the background, separated from Eagle Island by Cape Fear River. The Isabel Homes Bridge as well as the docks adjacent to it are also visible on Cape Fear River, along the top of the image’s left edge.
