- Description
- A digital aerial photograph of remnant rice fields along a section of the Combahee River flowing through Bluff Plantation, South Carolina. The river can be seen in the bottom left corner flowing eastward to the top right. It appears black in the sunlight, in contrast to the mostly brown fields through which it flows. Two islets within its channel can be seen in the top right. Remnant canals and vestigial “quarter ditches” are clearly visible in many of these fields, especially in the ones closer to the image’s bottom edge. The fields in the top left are noticeably greener than the others and are separated from the brown fields by clusters of taller trees.
