- SC – Upper Combahee. This image was taken slightly downriver from previous image illustrating a typical transformation from swampland to irrigated rice field. -–Description from photographer, David Soliday.
- Description
- A digital scan of an aerial photograph depicting remnant rice fields along a section of the Combahee River. The sun lit fields in the left half of the photograph appear yellowish brown in contrast to the deep blue of the Combahee River meandering by. Vestigial canals and “quarter ditches” also create a grid-like pattern in these illuminated fields. The taller vegetation on the opposite riverbank look grey and green against the setting sunlight, sometimes casting shadows on the flatter grasslands nearby.
