Caption
An old rice field canal on Bear Island offers foraging opportunities for various species of waterfowl. –Description from photographer, David Soliday.
Description
A digital scan of an aerial photograph depicting remnant rice fields along Horseshoe Creek near Ashepoo, South Carolina. Two of the river’s tributaries can be seen flowing from the top of the image before converging around a small island within their path. The rivers appear deep blue in contrast to the light brown of the vestigial fields through which they flow. Remnant canals and “quarter ditches” can be seen in many of these fields. Along the top half of the left edge, a cluster of trees partially obscure the road and houses underneath.
