These are fields on the lower stretches of the Edisto River. Willtown Bluff is across river to the left - the second settlement after Charleston. –Description from photographer, David Soliday.
Description
A digital aerial photograph of fields along the Edisto River. The river begins in the top left and flows south toward the right edge. Two islands can be seen in its path (along the bank to the left): Prospect Island, whose fields appear to have brown squares within them, and Oakhurst Island just below it. Further left, on the mainland, grassless fields can be seen with canals and tree lined paths separating them. Two buildings are perched on one of the plots adjacent the river, with a dock extending from the plot out into the river’s channel. Taller, greener vegetation occupies much of the riverbank to the right, along with Willtown Bluff. These trees take up most of the image’s background.
