- Description
- An aquatint etching depicting a night time street scene and view of the Philadelphia National Bank Building located on Broad Street in Philadelphia. In the foreground is a pavement that appears to shimmer with streaks of light across the dark surface. The edge of the pavement is lined with tall streetlamps, each with two hanging globes. Beneath the street lights are dark outlines of parked cars. Along the right margin of the scene are building fronts with flag or awning poles projecting at an angle above the doors. In the background is a tall building whose upper third is brightly illuminated. This building is flanked by dark silhouettes of other buildings against a dark grey sky. There is a narrow white margin surrounding the image. Handwritten inscriptions in graphite along the bottom read [50] in the left corner, [Number One Broad Street] in the center and [Allan Freelon / Imp.]. Beneath this line is a second inscription, by the same hand in graphite, reading [For George and Harriette with sincere regards 2/6/35].
