Caption
Charles F. Bolden graduated from the Naval Academy in 1968 and become a Marine Corps aviator, flying more than 100 combat missions over Southeast Asia. In 1980 he was selected a NASA astronaut and flew four space missions. Bolden was eventually appointed the 12th Administrator of NASA. He retired in 2003 as a major general.
Description
A rectangular star signal mirror attached to the survival vest (2014.243.34.1) owned by Charles F. Bolden. The front is a mirror with a central circle cut out and star in the middle of the circle. The back is plastic and has a card printed with instructions and manufacturer information. The mirror has rounded edges and in the upper PL corner there is a rectangular hole through which white cordage is threaded. The cord attaches the mirror to the top of a pocket on the PL side of the vest.
